Essence
The Unique, Inexorable Character
Essence is defined as “That which an object cannot exist without”. Every material contains a unique character and potential that is amplified or diminished with time.
In the Web of Planets and Elements, it is located in the region between fire and water and corresponds to the Brow, Solar Plexus, and Sacral chakras. It is most closely equivalent to the element of Water. Essence shares the second Highest energy state with Substance.
In Alchemy, Essence is composed with all four elements, as opposed to Substance which lacks fire. Essence is lower in entropy, making it less energetically favorable and more difficult to stabilize which means it’s more reactive. This energy state is also much more accessible; From the Moon, Venus, Mars and Neptune during the day and Jupiter at night.
Planetary Syntheses
The synthesis of Essence with Spirit yields the planet Jupiter.
The synthesis of Essence with Substance yields planet Neptune.
Synthesis of Essence with Matter can yield the Moon, Venus, Mars and Pluto.
Essence Parameter Effects - an unrefined product is low in Essence. When performing any sort of Alchemy, we want a product to retain its essence through transformation.
High Essence indicates stronger manifestation of core properties, increased potency, purer expression of fundamental qualities. Good for extracting, refining, or working with essential properties.
Low Essence shows diluted or dormant essential qualities. May indicate times better for storage, preservation, or working with more material aspects rather than essence-based operations.
